We used Delrin for the material - a very hard yet light weight substance, and left in the matte finish. On it we have engraved various Ravens - the mascot of the Black Pen Society. There is a center taper in the barrel, so the length is only 6.5\" (to the nib tip) when the cap is posted on the barrel.
