The Illumination
of Being
by:
Dianalee Velie
Do not fear the politicians
who spit out rhetoric,
as taut as the tight rope
upon which they balance
their positions.
Nor should you fear the actors,
who memorize the words of others
before contemplating
social injustice and finding
their true cause.
Neither fear the musician
whose music soothes or incites
for, with fame, he too may
seek out justice
for the poor and downtrodden.
Fear only the poets,
whose words sing mere songs.
For they, who recorded the fall
of Troy, sit quietly, observing all,
pens poised in the present,
their only desire:
capturing simple truths
to provide the illumination of being. |
