Specialty Nibs
♦
Franklin-Christoph is now customizing our fountain pen nibs into various
specialty nibs. We custom grind our 18K gold nibs, along with
the steel nibs on the M-14 Models. All pens with specialty
nibs have been inked and tested, so you may find ink residue within the nib
and feed. The pens are otherwise new.
♦
Italic nibs
consist of a flat tip, with flattened bottom iridium. Italics are utilized more for
calligraphic writing, with stark edges for broad down strokes and thin side
strokes. Italic nibs are best suited for calligraphers, or the otherwise
trained hand.
♦
Stub nibs are
similar to Italics, but with the bottom iridium left rounded, (though
flatter than a stock medium or broad nib). What you give in line sharpness
of the italic, you gain in smoothness with the stub. It still creates a more
distinctive line, without the sharper edges, and can be used more easily in
every day handwriting.
♦
Extra-Fine are essentially narrowed fine
nibs. We have them carefully ground to maintain smooth flow. Because we
start with the larger ball tip of the fine, the bottom is rounder than a
factory XF, so you get a still smooth, but thin line.
